Jim enjoys practicing as a Florida personal injury lawyer because of the unique opportunity it gives to meet and help many different people. Jim believes in being profoundly related to the people around him. Being profoundly related to others applies not just to those that can help you, but also to those who can’t help themselves. Jim leads the board of directors as Chairman for the Rescue Outreach Mission of Central Florida. The Mission is a homeless rehabilitation center with separate facilities for homeless woman and children and homeless men. Jim finds great joy in knowing that those among us with nothing can have a place to rest and find hope. He is the Race Chairman of the annual Rescue Run Corporate 5K, a unique 3.1 mile walk/run that raises awareness and funds for the Mission.
Being a successful Florida personal injury lawyer requires learning the latest legal developments by constantly reading recent court decisions, communicating with other attorneys, and listening to what local judges and juries require. In order to do this, Jim is President of the Seminole County Bar Association, Treasurer of the Central Florida Trial Attorneys Association, and member of the Volusia County Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association, the Florida Justice Association, the American Association for Justice, the Seminole County Chamber of Commerce, the Florida Bar, and the International Law Section of the Florida Bar.
The practice of law in Central Florida is collegial and that is also true with Florida personal injury lawyers. In order to keep the practice of law this way, Jim has been a proponent of the American Inns of Court for two decades. The American Inns of Court was founded by a prior Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court to encourage lawyers to “break bread” with each other once a month and to foster excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility, and legal skills. Jim enjoys sharing with fellow lawyers as a member of the Inns of Court of Central Florida. Jim is also a Fellow of The Florida Bar Foundation, the Florida Bar’s charitable trust whose mission is to fund programs that expand and improve representation and advocacy of low-income persons in civil legal matters and promote public service among lawyers by making it an integral component of the law school experience. It is the only statewide organization that provides financial support for legal aid and promotes improvements in addressing the civil legal needs of the poor.
Being a Florida personal injury lawyer is rewarding, but Jim’s greatest joy is being a family man. Jim is blessed to be married to his outgoing and beautiful wife Jennifer Ferguson. Jen has her own financial advising practice and has given Jim his passion for charitable work. Jim and Jen have three children, Evan, Irelyn & Stacy, and an extended family that includes 19 nieces and nephews! Jim and his family are members of Annunciation Catholic Church. He volunteers as a coach for the children’s baseball teams and makes time for their camping and scouting events.
